Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
